AI Hosting in Austria & the EU
The most common question before a company even considers AI agents is not "what does it cost" but "am I allowed to do this". This module is the answer to exactly that question: AI hosting in Austria and the EU, with documented data flows, named model providers, and a clear contractual basis. We tell you where your data physically sits, who can see it, and what, if anything, leaves the building toward an external provider. That way you decide for or against AI agents based on facts, not on a gut feeling.
Who this is relevant for
- You process customer or personnel data and need to know where it physically resides before you start.
- Your management or data protection officer requires a clear statement on server location and data processing before a project begins.
- You operate in a regulated field, such as a law firm, tax practice or healthcare, and need more than a blanket assurance.
- You are considering on-premise because certain data must not leave your building at all.
- You have heard on another AI project that data ends up with a US provider, and you want to decide that consciously for your own setup from the start rather than finding out afterwards.
- The EU AI Act has become a topic inside your company, and you want to know what it practically means for a specific agent project.
What you concretely get
Server location in the EU
Your agents and the associated database run by default on servers in Austria or the EU. We tell you the specific data centre, not just "Europe", and confirm the server location in writing on request.
On-premise as an option
If certain data must not leave your building, we run the solution fully or partly on your own hardware. That narrows the choice of models, because not every model can run locally, and increases the maintenance effort, which we discuss openly before you commit.
Clarity on model providers
We disclose which AI models are used and where their providers are based. Where a provider processes data outside the EU, we check the legal basis for the transfer and offer EU regions or European alternatives where available, so you have the choice.
Data processing agreement
You receive a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR with us as processor, which also lists the subprocessors involved. If a subprocessor changes, we inform you rather than quietly updating the list.
Documented data flows
An overview of which data flows into which agent, where it is stored, and what, if anything, leaves the building toward an external model provider. You can pass this documentation on to your data protection officer or your auditors.
Funding eligibility check
Many agent projects for small and medium-sized businesses qualify for the KMU.DIGITAL funding programme. We check that for your project and provide the documents needed for the application, though this does not replace advice from the funding body itself.
How we set this up
Assessment
We clarify what data your agents process and which rules apply to it, such as professional regulations, internal policy or client contracts. That determines how strict the requirements for storage location and access actually need to be.
Architecture decision
Based on that, we jointly decide whether EU hosting is sufficient or on-premise is required, and which model providers qualify. We lay out the trade-offs of each option openly, rather than presenting the seemingly safer option as the only one.
Contractual coverage
You receive the data processing agreement and the data flow documentation before any production data runs through the system. That way the contractual basis is in place before the first real customer record is processed.
Ongoing review
When providers, models or the legal situation change, such as through the EU AI Act, we adjust the setup and inform you. This review runs automatically in the background, you do not need to trigger it yourself.
Pricing
Standard hosting on EU servers is included in the ongoing operating cost of your agents and is not billed separately. On-premise operation on your own hardware creates additional effort for setup and maintenance, and its scope depends on your existing infrastructure. We calculate the concrete effort in the free initial consultation once we know your requirements.
No flat surcharge for EU hosting. On-premise is calculated individually. All amounts excl. VAT.
Regulation: DSGVO, EU AI Act, Umsetzungsfristen, EDPB

In the vast majority of cases, yes, there is no blanket ban on using AI agents in Austria. What matters is how you use it: which data is processed, who has access, and whether a clean contractual basis exists. We assess that together with you in the initial consultation, and for a binding legal opinion you should involve your own legal counsel.
No, nobody can guarantee that as a blanket statement, us included. We provide a clean technical and contractual foundation: EU server location, documented data flows and a data processing agreement. Whether your specific use is GDPR-compliant depends on your processing as a whole and, in doubt, is a question for your data protection officer or legal counsel. We do not provide legal advice.
By default in a data centre in Austria or the EU, which we name specifically rather than describing it only as "Europe". With on-premise operation, the data sits wherever your own hardware is located, usually right inside your building.
With the model providers we use, that is excluded under their respective business terms. We check this for every provider before we deploy it and disclose it to you.
Some of the most capable models come from providers outside the EU. In these cases we check whether an EU processing region is offered, secure the transfer contractually, and name the alternative with purely European processing if you prefer that instead.
Not automatically. On-premise shifts responsibility for security, backups and availability to you or your IT. For some data that is still the right choice, for other data a cleanly configured EU hosting setup is more practical and just as secure.
The EU AI Act brings staggered obligations depending on the risk class of your use case. For most applications we build, these are mainly transparency and documentation obligations. We set up your agents' documentation so you can meet those obligations, and flag it if your use case falls into a higher risk class.
Standard hosting on EU servers does not create a separate surcharge, it is part of the ongoing operating cost of your agents. On-premise operation costs extra, because setup and maintenance on your own hardware take more effort. How much depends on your existing infrastructure and is calculated in the free initial consultation, excl. VAT.
